Developing a Lifestyle of Depending on God

There are some things that are consistent across the board, we all need someone who can provide support from time to time. That support can take many different forms; it can be someone to care for a sick baby while you get some much-needed sleep. It can be someone to cook a meal because you are too sick to prepare meals for your family. We cannot survive without support.

But what about those times when those around us are incapable of providing the help we need? We would like to believe that for every situation we encounter, there is a face to provide help and support. However, if we are honest, there are some issues that no earthly face can resolve. This is where our lifestyle will determine if we succeed or fail. Proverbs 3:5-6 NCV, tells us, “Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.” We need to develop a lifestyle of trusting in God. This reminds me of Greyhound and their slogan: Go Greyhound, and leave the driving to us. In other words, don’t depend on your own understanding.

Situations would not change because you are sitting and worrying; Jesus said, “If you cannot do even the little things, then why worry about the big things?” (Luke 25:26). We need to develop a lifestyle of depending on God. In  1 Chronicles 16:11, David said, “Depend on the Lord and his strength; always go to him for help.” David faced hardships and challenges in his life, and he developed a lifestyle of depending on God. When we develop the habit of trusting God in trivial things, like David, we can trust God through our Goliath experiences.

Thought for Today: Friend, you can depend on God.
