Life is full of projects! For me, life is one project after another. There are things I love to do so my projects are centered around those things. If you know me, you will know that I love my garden. This summer has been a time of projects, and I have projects already lined up in my head for 2026. Projects take lots of time and effort.
Unfortunately, not everyone loves your projects or even wants you to succeed. They might smile with you, say how beautiful it will be when it’s all done but deep down on the inside, they wish your project would crash and burn. We foolishly believe that those behaviors are modern day behaviors. Nehemiah met people who wished his project would crash and burn. “When Sanballat, the governor of Samaria, heard that we were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, he became angry and started insulting our people.” (Nehemiah 4:1 CEV).`They were in the beginning phase of rebuilding and their enemy was upset. Nehemiah kept his workers focused on the task and the wall was halfway up. When the enemy saw their progress, they did their best to cause trouble. (verses 6-8). How did Nehemiah respond? “But we kept on praying to our God, and we also stationed guards day and night.” (verse 9).
When there is success, expect opposition. Success does not happen in a vacuum; it is a combination of many small pieces working together. It can be daunting when you must work in a hostile environment, but a hostile environment does not spell defeat. Nehemiah combined prayer and activity. “So, on October 2 the wall was finished—just fifty-two days after we had begun.” (Nehemiah 6:15 NLT). They finished the wall and frustrated the enemy.
Thought for Today: Friend, success will frustrate the enemy.
