The Lord! He’s My Shepherd!

In the Bible, we see many  references to agriculture. Jesus spoke about the Parable of the Sower, the Wheat and the Tares, and the Lost Sheep. There topics were relatable to His audience. They knew firsthand how destructive tares can be in a wheat field, much like weeds in a lawn.

In Psalm 23:1 NLT David said, “The Lord is my shepherd;  I have all that I need.”  When David wrote about the Lord, he was referring to Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel. In John 10:10, Jesus talks about His role in our lives as our Shepherd. He said, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” That is the role of the shepherd as he cares for his flock. Shepherds do not wait for something to happen then drive everyone around them crazy looking for a solution.

Shepherds know sheep! That is their job so they plan to ensure that sheep will have all that they need because the shepherd is concerned about the welfare of the sheep. If earthly shepherds spend all that time and effort to care for their flock, don’t you think that the Lord cares about you? I know that there are times in our lives when the burdens are heavy and the road is rough. The Apostle Peter said, . . . casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]. (1 Peter 5:7 AMP)  Our God cares about us! He is willing to take responsibility for our burdens. You just need to ask!

Thought for Today: Friend, His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.
