What do you do after you defeat your enemy? For many, that would begin a celebratory season. It’s a time to push out your chest and lift your voice as you bask in the glory of your victory. But what if your victory was not entirely by your own strength? Would that change your behavior?
King Asa experienced a glorious victory because the Lord was with him. While he was on his way home, he received a message from the Lord. “Listen to me, Asa! Listen, all you people of Judah and Benjamin! The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with him! Whenever you seek him, you will find him. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you.” (2 Chronicles 15:2 NLT). That word brought change into Asa’s life. It gave him the courage to stand up and do what was right before God. So many times, we know what to do, but we are afraid to do what is right. Asa pulled down the idols and repaired the altar.
Asa demonstrated what godly leaders do: he led the people to serve the Lord. The people agreed. They knew that God was with Asa, and they were willing to pull down the idols and repair the altar. As a result, there was peace in the land. Today, we engage in an assortment of activities in the quest for peace. We need to pull down the idols and repair our altars. Anything or anyone we place before God is an idol. Where do you stand? Are you willing to tear down your idols and repair your altar?
Thought for Today: Friend, let’s put God first.
