The playground can be a place of stress in the life of a child. For some, it’s a place of fun. However, not all children welcome time on the playground. When it’s time to run around, life on the playground is great. But when it’s time to choose teams, things change. Getting on a team early makes life enjoyable. It’s natural to feel discouraged when you aren’t selected, as it can be disheartening to think you’re not appreciated.
One definition for “choose” is to pick by preference. When you are not the preferred choice, it can undermine your self-esteem. All of us have a desire to feel needed and wanted. Isaiah 41:9 NLT says, “I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, ‘You are my servant.’ For I have chosen you and will not throw you away.” That is a game changer! In the lives of children and adults, there is the experience of being discarded, but our loving God has promised that He will not throw us away.
Why did God choose me? Have you ever asked yourself that question? Jesus said, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.” (John 15:16). We were chosen with purpose. God wants us to be fruitful; in other words, we are chosen to produce fruit abundantly. I pray that we will stay connected to Jesus so that we can continually produce fruit.
Thought for Today: Friend, it’s comforting to know that God chose me.
