There are people who have the ministry of complaining. The temperature is never comfortable it is either too hot or too cold. The neighbors are too noisy; the lines at the restaurant are too long. And their pet peeve is that food prices are too high. I must agree with that one, food prices are too high!
Life can be difficult if you must constantly interact with complainers; Moses knew something about that. Exodus 2:23 NLT says, “Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God.” God heard their cry and chose Moses to lead them out of slavery in Egypt. It was not easy, but God has a history of doing things that humans believe are impossible. When they ran out of road, God parted the waters of the Red Sea, and they came through as on dry land. One month later they had a problem, and what do you think they did? They complained. Mason Cooley said, ‘Complainers change their complaints, but they never reduce the amount of time spent complaining.’
“If only the Lord had killed us back in Egypt, there we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.” (Exodus 16:2-3). They were so dissatisfied with their situation that they were willing to exchange the deliverance from God for slavery in Egypt so they can enjoy meat and bread. Do you know that we behave just like that at times? Let us practice gratitude and thankfulness and thank God for His blessings in our lives.
Thought for Today: Friend, don’t complain; give thanks.
