When you think of people doing great deeds, you might recall the men who collaborated to isolate DNA. That information changed the way we live in so many ways. We associate greatness and great deeds with events. But can ordinary people do great deeds by faith?
Well, the Hebrews wall of fame mentions Noah. Noah was on ordinary man living at a time when the wickedness of man was so great that God was sorry that He made man. (Genesis 6:5-6). God decided to destroy humankind, but Noah was different. “Noah found favor and grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:8 AMP). When the world at that time displeased God with their lifestyle; Noah lived by a set of moral guidelines and principles that pleased God. As a result, God commissioned Noah to build an ark; Noah never saw an ark before God, but he decided to trust God and in obedience, built the ark.
The writer of Hebrews commended Noah: “It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith. (Hebrews 11:7 NLT) Why was faith required? Well Noah built the boat in response to God’s command. His reverence for the word of God brought punishment to those who didn’t believe and righteousness to those who believed God. Noah’s example tells us that we have the power to make a difference when we walk in faith and obedience to God. Then we can find grace and favor with the Lord.
