El Roi: The God Who Sees Me!

There are times in life where people can feel that they have it all. At times, that feeling is based on their wealth and status. Other times, those feelings are based on a change of some kind that entered their life.

Hagar, Sarai’s servant, had that problem. “So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes. (Genesis 16:4 NKJV). Hagar believed that she was more important than Abram’s wife because she was carrying his son. But when Sarai was harsh with her, she ran away. But at that moment, she had an encounter with the angel of the Lord. He told her to go back and submit to Sarai’s authority and gave her a blessing for her son.

Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?” (Genesis 16:13). Hagar discovered something wonderful in her moment of despair: she encountered El Roi, the God who sees me. Since God does not change we can be confident that God sees us and is aware of our struggles, pain, disappointments and all the issues that invade our lives. He cares about us and will be with us in our difficulties. However, we must  acknowledge His presence and submit to His will  then we will see Him work out our issues not the way we want but the way that is best for us. He is the God who sees us.

Thought for Today: Friend, El Roi sees you and knows you.
