Disobey: Get Thrown Overboard!

What do you do when your actions bring hardships into the lives of others? Yes, we mistakenly believe that we are solely responsible for our actions but as we navigate life on earth, we recognize that our actions affect those around us.

God sent Jonah on a mission, but he was on a boat going in the opposite direction. He was in blatant disobedience to God’s commands. But his disobedience began to impact the lives of those on the boat because God sent a powerful wind that caused a violent storm and the crew was overwhelmed. Nothing they tried worked. After casting lots, they went to Jonah to find out his transgression. Jonah replied: “Throw me into the sea, and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault.” (Jonah 1:12 NLT). The men were reluctant to do so but eventually; they threw him overboard.

As a result, the storm ceased immediately. The men who were on the boat were amazed when they saw the power of God on display; it demanded a response from them. They abandoned their false gods and served the true and living God. Jonah, meanwhile, was traveling to his destination inside the belly of a great fish. God’s purpose will prevail even when we choose to ignore His commands. It’s better to comply that to travel in the belly of a great fish for three days. There is an easier way: the way of obedience.

Thought for Today: Friend, disobedience will throw you overboard.
