In the world today we hear many voices. There are voices that convey pleasure; voices that convey commands and so many other things. Then, we respond to these voices. How do you respond to the voices that impact your life?
As we reflect on the Christmas season, it’s a season of voices and responses. In Luke 1, Mary had a conversation with the Angel Gabriel. He had the most unusual salutation. He said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” (Luke 1:28 NLT). She was confused. Then he told her about an assignment that seemed impossible. God chose Mary to become the mother of His Son; she did not understand all the details about how everything would happen. The angel gave her some more instructions because things that seem impossible with man is possible with God. (Luke 1:37).
Mary’s response was one of submission. The world’s definition of submission is to yield to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person, many times, by force. But that is not what Mary did. Mary chose to willingly place herself under God’s authority. Her obedience came out of love and a willingness to humble herself before a holy God. She said, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.” (Luke 1:38). Mary’s Voice was one of submission. How do you respond to God’s usual requests?
Thought for Today: Friend, respond to God’s will with submission.
