Our Memories Shape Our Lives!

In life, we have experiences that are etched in our memory. These memories can be pleasant like the birth of a child or painful like the loss of a loved one. Then, we have memories about incidents that impact us as people on the earth. 9-11 is that memory in this generation. I can remember that day clearly. I was at work wearing a green dress when I got that news. I still remember.

Memories shape our lives. When the children of Israel were enslaved in Egypt, they cried out to God for help. When they were on the brink of deliverance, God gave them detailed instructions about preparations for that day and those preparations were to become part of their culture. “Remember, these instructions are a permanent law that you and your descendants must observe forever.” (Exodus 12:24 NLT).

Moses also gave them a response for when their children ask them about their actions. ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, for he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt. And though he struck the Egyptians, he spared our families.’” When Moses had finished speaking, all the people bowed down to the ground and worshiped. (Verse 27). You see, our rememberance shapes our identity. The same is true for us today. Jesus left us with instructions also in Luke 22:19. He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” As we remember His sacrifice, we have the responsibility to tell the world about Jesus: His sacrifice makes a difference in our lives.

Thought for Today: Friend, remember Jesus’ sacrifice.
