Have you ever wanted something so bad that it consumed your thoughts all the time? When you are at work, it would creep into your mind and if you are not careful, it would affect your ability to concentrate and stay focused. When you go to sleep, it will invade your dreams because the desire is so strong.
That was the case when the children of Israel were in Egypt; all they could think about was freedom. The freedom to take control of the lives. Well one day, that impossible dream became a reality when Pharaoh finally agreed to let them leave. They were free! According to the scholars, they were traveling for about a year when the arrived at the place God provided. God directed Moses to send out twelve men to explore the land. I can imagine the jubilation and anticipation as they waited for the report. However, it was not the report they expected. Ten of them acknowledged how glorious and bountiful the land was, they shared their conclusion: “But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak!” (Numbers 13:28 NLT). When Joshua and Caled heard their report, they said, “Let’s go at once to take the land. We can certainly conquer it!” (Verse 30). It was too late and the damage was already done. The people believed in the evil report.
How quickly we forget! One year ago, they left Egypt and saw God rescue them from Pharaoh when they crossed the Red Sea. The God of the Red Sea who parted the Red Sea is the same God who would give them victory in Caanan. They rejected the Lord’s provision and they were punished. They wondered in the wilderness for forty years until that generation died in the wilderness. They never entered the Promised Land.
Thought for Today: Friend, acknowledge and accept God’s provision.
