Bitter Became Sweet at Marah

Water! We can’t survive without water. We need water to regulate our body temperature, and to lubricate our joints. Water supports organic functions, improves our mood, and boosts our energy. Water flushes toxins from our bodies and washes our exterior to keep us clean. We cannot survive without water.

After the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea, they traveled for three days without finding any water. When they found water at Marah, they couldn’t drink it because the water was bitter. (Exodus 15:22). They were thirsty and must have been in a bad mood because they couldn’t remember the miracles they experienced three days earlier. “The people [grew discontented and] grumbled at Moses, saying, “What are we going to drink?” (Exodus 15:24 AMP). Moses, went to God with the problem. “Then he cried to the Lord [for help], and the Lord showed him a tree, [a branch of] which he threw into the waters, and the waters became sweet.” Exodus 15:25).

Isn’t that just like human nature? Their memory was short. Three days earlier, they were celebrating the marvelous works of the Lord. When a new problem confronted them, they didn’t recall the power of God. God didn’t change; their hearts were hardened and refused to see Him as the all-powerful God. They wanted God to prove Himself repeatedly. I pray that we would not walk before God with a hard heart. Remember that nothing is too difficult for Him. He can still make the bitter waters of your experiences sweet.

Thought for Today: Friend, when times are tough, trust God.
