What do you do when the unthinkable happens? In our lives we face both joy and pain. If we are honest, we would admit that we don’t like the pain. But, as members of humanity, we experience pain.
The dictionary defines pain as physical suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury. That is the definition we can identify in our lives at some point in time. But is pain only physical? There is another definition of pain: mental or emotional distress or suffering. The Apostle Paul tells us, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT). We too, as people of faith, experience the hardships of life. But we have a resource that’s not available to those without a relationship with Jesus Christ; He provides a way of escape.
Matthew Henrey says, “He knows what we can bear, and what we can bear up against; and he will, in his wise providence, either proportion our temptations to our strength or make us able to grapple with them.” When we experience pain, God shows compassion. He is concerned about us; He is our present help. (Psalm 46:1) His love for us causes His hand to move in our direction and shows us favor. He comes in like a flood and covers us. So even in our dark night, God brings morning.
