Examine Yourself!

We live in a world today where we try to evaluate those around us; can we identify the character of those around us? There was a time when it was easy because we had a moral compass that identified good and evil. Today, there has been a shift in our moral compass and good has become evil and evil masquerades as good.

Truth is a not negotiable and the word of God is truth; Luke 6:45 AMP tells us, “The [intrinsically] good man produces what is good and honorable and moral out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart; and the [intrinsically] evil man produces what is wicked and depraved out of the evil [in his heart]; for his mouth speaks from the overflow of his heart.” The heart of man dictates his actions and words and thereby we can identify and  determine if one person is good or evil. While this is a valuable tool to judge others, it is a useful tool to evaluate our hearts. What do our words and actions say about us? We are quick to evaluate the person next door, but we are reluctant to  turn that light internally. Jesus spoke about that in Matthew 7:3 CEV, He said, “You can see the speck in your friend’s eye, but you don’t notice the log in your own eye.” It can be difficult to admit that there is a log in our eyes.

What do you do when you notice a log in your eye? “All the ways of a man are clean and innocent in his own eyes [and he may see nothing wrong with his actions], But the Lord weighs and examines the motives and intents [of the heart and knows the truth].” (Proverbs 16:2 AMP). We find ourselves in this situation, like David, we need to go before God and ask Him to search our hearts.

Thought for Today: Friend, turn your search light inward.
