Follow Jesus and Serve with Humility

When asked to explain humility, we are at a loss to articulate our feelings. C. S. Lewis said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less. This is often difficult, especially when we concentrate only on what benefits us personally.

Man seeks to set himself on the high places; they are willing to step on others; take advantage of people without position to get what they want. However, when to get what they desired, they are not happy with what they have. In the world, you step on others to get ahead but God has a different plan. James 4:10  CEB says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” It’s that simple: humility is the way up with God. Jesus Christ, God’s son, came to earth in obedience to His Father. God had no other way to redeem man but through His Son. “After He was found in [terms of His] outward appearance as a man [for a divinely-appointed time], He humbled Himself [still further] by becoming obedient [to the Father] to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:8 AMP).

Jesus demonstrated humility in His life. When His time on earth was drawing near, He took  the form of a servant and washed His disciples’ feet. That was the job of a slave or servant when guests entered the home. Jesus saw Himself as a servant ; he told his disciples in Luke 22:27 NLT: “Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.” Jesus humbled Himself and served others. We need to do the same.

Thought for Today: Friend, Jesus served humbly; follow Him.
