Everyone wants to live in a society where they have the freedom to choose. If you want to be a doctor, lawyer or police office, you have the ability to choose. The opportunity to choose comes with a price.
Independence Day is set aside to celebrate freedom from the control of a political being. This country celebrates independence from Great Britain. As a free country, they were no longer under Britain’s control. While political freedom is a commodity of great value, there is another freedom that is more important than political freedom and that is spiritual freedom.
You may wonder why you need spiritual freedom. Well Romans 3:23 tells us that everyone has sinned. So mankind is under the control of sin. But there is independence from sin. God sent his Son to pay the price of freedom. John 8:36 says, “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” You don’t have to controlled by sin, you can be truly free.
