Lord, you can scrutinize me. Refine my heart and probe my every thought. Put me to the test and you’ll find it’s true. Psalms 26:2 TPT
In this Psalm David has a request. He is asking God to take a close look at him. When you look closely at something, you see things other people miss. So when there is a need for close examination, an expert in the field is preferable. An expert is someone who is knowledgeable in a particular area. When you look at the hearts of man, there is no person qualified to look closely into the heart. David didn’t stop there but he asked God to refine him. In other words, as you look closely at me, remove the impurities that are in my heart.
It’s impossible for anyone to know the contents of another’s heart. When Samuel went to Jesse’s house to anoint a new king, he thought he had found the one. But God instructed Samuel to keep looking. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Samuel used his eyes to judge. While you can fool others with your outward appearance, God looks at the heart. David didn’t want to be right by man’s standards; he wanted to be right before God.
Thought for Today: God looks at the heart.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Only God can judge the heart. So lets guard it with all we’re got.
