God Favored Mary

At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Luke 1:41-42 NLT

There are times in life when you can encounter someone with a similar story. It could be, that you came from the same community and had experiences in common. It could be, that you attended the same educational institution and shared the same campus experience. It could be, that you work in the same industry and shared the same preparation process. At some point in your life, it’s possible to encounter someone with an experience in common.

Here are two women at different stages of their lives going through the same experience. Elizabeth was an old woman who thought that she would never give birth to a child but was currently with child. Mary was a young girl about to be married but she too, was having a child. Isaiah spoke of a sign and Mary was the virgin who conceived and will give birth to a son. The similarities do not end there since both births were foretold by the angel Gabriel; Gabriel spoke to Elizabeth’s husband and he also spoke to Mary.

When a birth was foretold in the past, the information was given to the husband. Mary at this time, had no husband so the angel spoke to her directly. At times, your assignment can be difficult but God has a way of sending support when needed. Mary spent time with her cousin who understood what was happening in her body. When Mary arrived, the baby in Elizabeth responded to the Savior in Mary’s womb. Then Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, blessed Mary and her baby. At first, Mary didn’t understand what the angel was saying but he told her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary for you have found favor with God!” (verse 30).  God had a special assignment for Mary. Mary had no idea what the future would be. There were so many things she still didn’t understand but Mary decided to submit to the plan of God for her life.

Thought for Today: Friend, God’s favor does not guarantee a life of ease.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory
