Follow the Sign

All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). Isaiah 7:14 NLT

In life people are always looking for signs. I’m sure people who lived one hundred years ago, knew how to read the signs in the skies that told them that rain was coming. Sometimes, you listen to the prediction of the weather and you get outside and you shake your head. But as the day progresses, the change begins to happen; the temperature begins to drop creating the weather for snow. The prophet Isaiah told the people, “The Lord will give them a sign.”  Sometimes sign posts can be misdirected by accidents or the power of nature. But when the Lord gives a sign, it stands firm.

When God created man, His desire was to have fellowship with him. God placed man in the perfect environment with one rule to live by; “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Genesis 2:16-17. One day, they had a visitor in the garden; his purpose was to cause them to disobey God’s directives. He said in Genesis 3:1, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” He distorted what God said and so man sinned and severed the relationship with God; but God promised a redeemer. How will they recognize the redeemer? God gave them a sign.

The angel Gabriel visited Mary and gave her a message that would change her life. He said in Luke 1:31, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.” The information in the sign pointed to Mary so Matthew 1:18 says, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.” Now the purpose of a sign is to point you in the right direction. Then, you can choose to follow or ignore. The sign that pointed to Jesus Christ is still actively pointing to Him as the way to God.

Thought for Today: Friend, the sign still works. Follow it!

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.

  1. God is good. When we don’t follow the signs, we sometimes lose our way and it takes us a longer time to reach our destination .
