How many times have you seen a small child and smiled because he was walking around imitating his father? If his father was working in the yard wearing a cap, the boy found a cap to wear. If his father started to repair something that required a screw driver from his tool box, the boy would searched his toy box to locate a screw driver.
Children love their parents and want to be just them. Little boys want to follow in the footsteps of their father. So that places great responsibility on the father. He is not perfect but would do all in his power to do what is right so that he sets a good example for his son. Unfortunately, men are human and many times, they come up short. Children are not the only ones who are looking for a role model; adults are looking also. John wanted the people in his day to have someone to follow. He told them, “Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:6. In other words, they had Jesus as a role model.
The same holds true for us today. He is our example. Paul said, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Philippians 2:5. When you talk about attitude, you are talking about how the way you feel or think affects your behavior. When you look at Jesus Christ, His actions were based on the way He felt about man. Paul continued, “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”
It’s easy to see His belief system while He was on the earth. So many have nothing and behave like they have so much. He had everything but behaved like He had nothing. He gave up what was His by right so He could purchase salvation for all mankind. He submitted Himself to the will of the Father to give mankind the opportunity to have a relationship with God. So what does it mean in your life, to live your life as Jesus did? It’s not an impossible task but it would require a change in attitude if you decide to follow Him.
In order for us to be like Jesus Christ we have to live a life of obedience to God.
Our attitude should be God and nothing else.
Give up your right to be right, and let God arise in your storm….
