The Best Treasure

Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:20-21 NLT

Lots of movies and TV shows have story lines about treasures. The treasure is sometimes buried on land or at the bottom of the ocean. Everyone is searching and the drive to gain possession of the treasure is so great that some characters commit crimes and lose their freedom and the treasure in the end. For everyday people, the treasure can be concrete or abstract. For some, their treasure is their possessions: home, car, wealth and many other things. For others, it’s their fame, influence, reputation or position. Treasure is a part of life. But the question is what do you treasure and where is it stored? “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.” Verse 19.

The Word of God cautions against stored treasures on earth because there are liabilities when your treasure is stored on earth. There are people who lost their lives in pursuit of treasure that is temporal. The lure of the treasure was so great that their very life lost its value.  Others, risk the lives of their loved ones in their quest to gain treasure that thieves can break through and steal. When you walk with God, you learn that temporal things are just that, in your life for a season. While it’s great to have a comfortable home with all the things you desire, your focus should not be on those things. The greatest treasure anyone can have is eternal life found in Jesus Christ.  That treasure cannot be stolen and will not decay.

Thought for Today:  Store your treasure in heaven

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
