Each one of you will put to flight a thousand of the enemy, for the Lord your God fights for you, just as he has promised. Joshua 23:10 NLT
In days of old, it was the custom to have conversations with your family before you die. Fathers use this time to pass on wisdom to the members of their families. Joshua was advanced in years and he saw the need to pass on information to his big family, the nation of Israel. Moses took them through the Red Sea and Joshua took them over the Jordan. Joshua was aware that there was more work to be done. He knew his time was limited so he requested a conversation with the elders and leaders.
Israel’s success did not happen in a vacuum; their success came as a result of their relationship with God. Joshua wanted them to remember that fact; so he gives them a charge in verse 6. He said “So be very careful to follow everything Moses wrote in the Book of Instruction. Do not deviate from it, turning either to the right or to the left.” God gave Joshua that same charge and he lived by it. Joshua understood that his success came from paying attention to God’s command. When they walk in obedience to that charge, they will have spiritual power to defeat their enemies. At that time, one man can defeat one thousand enemies.
This victory was not a result of physical might or power; instead it was a victory because God was with them. God gave that promise when Moses was alive. God said, “I will send my terror ahead of you and create panic among all the people whose lands you invade. I will make all your enemies turn and run.” Exodus 23:27. This is God’s power in action. His power is connected to His charge. If you walk in obedience then He will fight for you. Many times people want to choose how they walk but want to experience the mighty power of God. If you want His presence with you; obey his commands.
Thought for Today: Friend, if you want God you fight for you, obey Him.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
