God Gives Victory

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7 NIV

Little children love heroes. They have wild imaginations and they believe that people on TV can do anything. They love to look at shows where there is a hero. They like watch Superman and Spiderman; they love to see Superman rescue the train just before it goes over the cliff and falls into the sea; who can resist Spiderman flying with his spider web. Of course, they are not the only heroes we see. The superheroes are not complete without Wonder Woman and Supergirl; there is a hero for everyone! In the days of old, they didn’t have superheroes; they had chariots and horses.  There are some enemies that require more than the chariots or the superheroes are able to do.

Here, King David was getting ready for battle. In modern warfare, the leader never leaves home. They sign a document and men and women are plunged into warfare. In David’s time, leaders led their troops on the battlefield. There was a possibility that the king might not return from battle. So every battle was important. There was no diplomacy to rescue a captured monarch; if your king was captured in battle, your king was dead. In this context, David prepared himself for battle. He fought in many battles and he knew that victory was important but victory did not come by the equipment at your disposal; victory comes from God.

The same principle is true in your life. Your victory is not dependent on your education, your money or your connections; your victory comes from God.  So how can you enjoy victory that comes from God? God’s victory is a family thing. You must be a member of His family to enjoy the benefits. David had a personal connection with God; he said in verse 6,” Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.” David understood that his enemies prepared for battle with their weapons but he would prepare for battle by putting his trust in his God. The same is true today; the weapons might be different but as people of faith, we will trust in the name of the Lord our God.
