But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone. For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness. Psalm 73:2-3 NLT
Many times in life, people always look over the fence and desire what the other person has. It could be that they have a bigger house, a fancier car or something else. But whatever the issue, you take a look and your side of the fence has lost its luster. You loved your home when God blessed you with it but when you competitive friend bought a house that was larger than yours, you had a problem. It’s best to keep your eyes on your side of the fence and pay attention to your green grass. One day I was looking at one of the home shows on TV and to bump up curb appeal, they dyed the brown grass, green.
David fell in to a situation somewhat like that; he began looking and comparing himself to others. Chinese author, Betty Jamie Chung said, “Comparison with myself brings improvement, comparison with others brings discontent.” This is what happened in David’s life; he began to compare himself with others. When he looked at them, he saw the things he wanted in his own life. Imagine, in his time there was no Social Media to see how everyone lived. Now, you don’t have to wonder what is happening next door, all you need to do is locate them on Social Media. And so people have become like David, envious.
Does that happen to people of faith? Do we look and envy others? There are so many reasons to look in the mirror and love what you see. David said in Psalm 139:14, “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.” David came to this conclusion in his life. You are also wonderfully complex! The NKV says, fearfully and wonderfully made! You are not a knock off! You are a genuine original designed by the God of heaven. So forget about their garden with their brown grass painted green, and appreciate all that God has placed in you.
Thought for Today: Friend, don’t be fooled; you are one of a kind.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Thank you Lord for making us unique never to be duplicated.
