The Way to Godly Living

For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life. Proverbs 6:23 NLT

We live in a world today where everyone is an expert. People are reluctant to take instruction or advice from anyone; sometimes even their own parents. There is a feeling that parents are an outdated commodity and their views are irrelevant. After all, what can they know when they cannot operate a tablet without help? As a result, they think their parent’s lack of technological skills mean that they are less intelligent and their views are of little or no value.

But, the wisest man endorsed the counsel of parents to guide their children.  Sometimes youths behave like parents were never young people who had to take guidance from their parents, and at times were disobedient and had to endure the consequences of their actions. But in reality, parents faced some of the same issues and challenges that their children are facing. While there are many new issues that confront young people, the root cause is the same. 1 John 2:16 NKJV says it this way,  “For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.” So the manifestation might be different but root cause has not changed.

Knowing this, Solomon directed the young to their resource in the time of confusion. He said, “My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.” Verse 20. In other words, be obedient to your parents and care takers. These parents were God faring people so they directed their children to the source of all wisdom, the Word of God. David, Solomon’s fathe,r declared in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” These parents knew the Word and that is what they used to guide their children.

Now you might be saying that you are no longer young but you are definitely in need of guidance. The same is true for you. While there are many experts, the only true expert is one who uses God’s word as a lamp to guide his feet and order his steps and light to dispel the darkness. There are men and women of God who would provide the direction you seek. When you ask God to direct you, He would take you to the person whose lips have the answers to the questions in your heart.  Allow the Word of God to be a lamp and light in your life.

Thought for Today: Friend, God gives directions in life.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
