Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. 2 Corinthians 7:1 NLT
Promises! Children love when their parents make promises; especially when they are unconditional. They would nag their parents night and day if they cannot see that promise coming to pass in their lives. Adults do the same because husbands make promises. They promise to do repairs and many times their wives would hold them to it.
There are promises in the word of God; and unlike promises made by men you don’t have to nag Him for the promises to manifest in your life. God made a variety of promises in His Word. He promised His presence in Isaiah 43:2; peace in Isaiah 26:3 and rest in Matthew 11:28-29, just to name a few. Well in the previous chapter, the Apostle Paul listed some promises in verses 16-18. In chapter 6 verse 16 we read, ”… As God said: I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” You see, God desires relationship.
However, God is not willing to have a relationship with you on your terms. He has demands that you need to meet in verse 17. It says, “Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.” So God has criteria for this relationship. It didn’t stop there; He promised, “And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” Relationship requires work on your part; it requires cleansing from the things that defile.
Why bother? When people make promises, they can and sometimes do change their minds. When Solomon dedicated the temple in 1 Kings 8, he talked about the unfailing promises of God. He said, “Praise the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the wonderful promises he gave through his servant Moses.” Verse 56. God will keep His promises to you. He is well able to do what He has promised. “For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.” 1 Corinthians 1:20. If you do your part, God will do His.
Thought for Today: Friend, separate yourself and walk in relationship with God.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Promises made promises kept. Only God.
