In each and every province and in each and every city, wherever the king’s command and his decree arrived, the Jews celebrated with gladness and joy, a feast and a holiday. And many among the peoples of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews [and their God] had fallen on them. Esther 8:17 AMP
Difficult times are part of life and those times are no respecter of persons. The wealthy man would to do all in his power to remain wealthy. It’s difficult when there are forces that he cannot control having a negative impact on his finances. Sometimes, that wealthy man can become sick and all the money in his portfolio is of little or no value to him. The poor man’s challenges are different. He is not sick but he struggles to provide housing and the necessities of life for his family. Each man has something the other wishes he had.
The book of Esther, tells about the challenges one group of people faced. The Jews in the Book of Esther were living in exile in Persia. Their leader was King Ahasuerus. One day, the king called for Queen Vashti and she refused his request. As a result, she was removed from being queen. The king chose a new queen: a young Jewish woman, Esther. While she was queen, Haman, a wicked man who hated the Jews devised a plot to kill them. When the Jews realized that their days were numbered, they decided to pray and fast and seek God’s protection.
God heard their prayer and set a plan in motion to deliver His people. Haman and his evil plot were exposed and what he planned for the Jews came to pass in his life. The queen went before the king and pleaded with the king to reverse the law which the wicked Haman asked the king to sign. Unfortunately, the laws written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s ring can never be revoked. So, a new decree was written and it allowed the Jews to defend themselves. This news brought joy in the hearts of the people. They celebrated. When the people of the land saw how great their God was, they decided to serve the God of the Jews also. Their difficulty created an opportunity for God to show up and show Himself strong.
