The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline. Proverbs 1:7 AMP
Many people would love to become knowledge in an arena. Those who have general knowledge are not as valuable as those who are experts. If you look in the medical field, the Heart Specialist earning is greater than that of the Family Doctor. The more knowledgeable a criminal attorney becomes, the more expensive his or her services become. Society values the expert.
When you think about knowledge, immediately your mind goes to the academic arena. While learning in schools and universities is extremely important, there is a place for knowledge that comes from God. Many people are confused when they hear, the fear of the Lord. They believe that God is someone that invokes fear in people. But when the Bible encourages you to fear God, it means to reverence Him; to honor Him; to worship Him.
Why is knowledge of God so important? Well to begin, this is not knowledge about how to repair the plumbing in your home. This knowledge is a result of seeking after God. Hosea 6:3 NLT says, “Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.” When you seek after Him, God will respond to you. The writer of Hebrews says that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
So what are some of the benefits of this knowledge that comes from God? Well it keeps you walking right before God. John 8:32 says, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Knowledge of the truth, will help you to avoid the pitfalls that lead to sin. This knowledge also leads to eternal life. John 17:3 says, “And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.” So if you want to know God, start by worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome.
Thought for Today: Friend, fear God.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
