Sent by God

Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” Judges 6:14 NLT

Have you ever been in a situation that invoked fear in you? You are like a prisoner, afraid to go out. You stay at home with the curtains drawn and you pray that no one is able to tell that you are in the house. If you have to go out, you choose the time when there are the least people about. Living in fear is no fun; it impacts the quality of your life.

In Judges Chapter 6 we find a young man who was living in fear. When the community planted food, their enemies came in and destroyed their crops. The people began to cry out to the Lord for help. Things were so bad that verse 11 says, “Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites.” He had to hide his activities and was working at the bottom of a winepress, instead of outdoors.

Then the angel of the Lord greeted him, he said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!” Gideon was really confused. He was hiding in a winepress working; there is nothing heroic about that! So you can imagine his surprise. Gideon asked, “Sir, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The Lord brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.” Then the Lord told Gideon that He is sending him to rescue Israel from the Midianites.

Is it possible that one man so afraid of the enemy would be the one to rescue Israel? If you look at him from a human standpoint, Gideon was way to coward for this mission. However, when God sends you, you are not going in your own strength but His. Sometimes people get confused and look at the person and their limitations; they forget that victory comes from God. When God sends you, you don’t have to worry because, He has already given you the victory. So go on your mission, you mighty men and women of valor, because when the Lord sends you, He goes with you.
