Be Still

God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 AMP

The need for help is universal; everyone at sometime in their life needs help. Unfortunately, not everyone is capable to provide help in every instance that help is needed. If you need medical attention, you will not go to the butcher because he is not able to provide the help you need. He can take you to the hospital so the medical professionals can attend to you; therefore the ability to provide help is dependent on your ability.

When the Psalmist declared that God is his refuge and strength, he was looking at the abilities of God to provide the services he described. He said that God is his refuge; in other words, God is his place of safety; God is his place of protection in the time of danger; God is his shield in the time of trouble.  When you look at David’s experiences you can recognize that indeed God was his refuge. In Psalm 27:2 he recalled one of those events; it says, “When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.” They were not successful because David knew that God was his refuge.

Then David said that God is his strength. When people think of strength, they think of individuals with mighty power; sometimes fictional characters with superhuman strength. But when David looked for strength; he looked to God. David understood that God was his source of power and so God empowered him to successfully navigate every situation that life threw at him. So he knew that even if the world changes and the things he thought would never change, change, he knew a place of safety in God because God is his refuge and strength.

But it gets better; God now spoke to David and said: “Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.” Verse 10.  What a comfort in the time of trouble! What is happening in your life? Are your problems shaking like mountains around you? Be still. Do the issues you face feel like the ocean wants to cover you? Be still. When your heart is breaking; be still. Whatever comes your way, the Lord of Host is your refuge; He is your strength.

Thought for Today: Friend, remember that God is your refuge and strength.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
