So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you. James 4:7 AMP
In the world today, there are some things that people just don’t like to do. One of those things is to submit. Children hate it; adults hate it; employees hate it and yes, even people have of faith, at times hate it. The dictionary defines submission as an act of submitting to the authority or control of another. That can be problematic on many levels. There are those who want to control you so they demand submission.
When you read the Bible, you will see that Jesus practiced submission. When he was about twelve years old, He became separated from His parents. When they found Him, Luke 2:21 says, “Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them.” Jesus submitted to the authority of His mother.
In His adult life, Jesus focused on doing the will of the Father. God, the Father, promised a redeemer when man sinned in the garden. In the fullness of time, Jesus was born. John said that the Word became flesh and lived among us. Philippians 2:6 GW says, “Although he was in the form of God and equal with God, he did not take advantage of this equality. When He became flesh, “He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, death on a cross.” Philippians 2:8 GW.
The second part of the verse tells us to resist the devil. If you want to stand firm against him, you need to submit to God. Give Him the control of your life. You cannot fight the enemy in your own strength. So submit to God and His authority and with His strength, you will be able to stand firm against the enemy.
