Just Consider

Only fear the Lord [with awe and profound reverence] and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. 1 Samuel 12:24 AMP

What do you do when you have done you best to guide people in the path that right and yet they don’t heed your advice? It can be very frustrating and discouraging.  They know, that you are telling them the truth, but still they choose to follow the path that they know will not have the desired end, that you want for them or even what they want for themselves.

Samuel had that experience. He was leading the nation of Israel at an important period of their existence. It was during his ministry as a judge in Israel, when they decided that they wanted a king. You see, they looked around at the other nations and they had kings so they wanted one too. Eventually, they got a king. Now Samuel was old and grey and he confronted the people. He told them that he has been serving them from childhood. In that time, his conduct has been above reproach. They acknowledged that what he said was the truth.

So after a discussion about how faithful God has been to them through the ages, he encouraged them to serve the Lord faithfully. For consider what great things He has done for you.  You see, Samuel reminded them about their ancestors in Egypt who were enslaved and oppressed; but God delivered them. He recalled that God brought them to the place where they were living. He reminded them about the consequences they faced when they rebelled against God and they were subdued by their enemies.

In the end, Samuel encouraged them to walk in the ways of the Lord and serve Him with all their heart. That is good advice not only for them but it also applies to us as well. In Psalm 8:3-4 David said, “When I see and consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have established, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of [earthborn] man that You care for him?” David took the time to consider the great things that God has done. What about you? Have you taken the time to consider the wonderful things God has done for you? If you are wondering what that might be, well if you are alive today that is a wonderful thing. So fear the Lord and serve Him with all your heart; consider the wonderful things He has done and is still doing for you.

Thought for Today: Friend, think about all the wonderful things that God has done.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
