And that night at midnight, the Lord struck down all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn son of the prisoner in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed. Exodus 12:29 NLT
Children often live with anticipation; they are excited about everything. When it’s time for their first day of school, they are excited. When it’s time for their first trip to the ballpark, they are excited. When it’s time for their birthday, they are excited. It seems that they are always excited. There are some events in life that make you more excited than a child on his or her birthday.
This company was excited; they have been looking forward to this day for hundreds of years. But tonight, there will be one event that will change their lives forever. Moses prepared them for this night; they listened carefully and obeyed. There would be deadly consequences for those who disobeyed the command of the Lord. You see, at midnight, the death angel passed through Egypt and any house that was not covered by the blood, he went in and the first born was struck. No one was exempt; the angel visited Pharaoh in the palace and the prisoner in the dungeon. Verse 30 says, “Pharaoh and all his officials and all the people of Egypt woke up during the night, and loud wailing was heard throughout the land of Egypt. There was not a single house where someone had not died.”
Pharaoh could no longer deny the existence of God. He was stubborn and refused to comply with the request to allow the people to leave Egypt. That night Pharaoh had to acknowledge that God Almighty is God. He operated in pride and behaved like he was a god. But eventually God struck a blow so severe, that he had to bow unwilling to the voice of God. Sometimes, we too, can become stubborn like Pharaoh and refuse to bow to the will of God. God is God and He has the final say. Sometimes man can become arrogant like Pharaoh, but just like Pharaoh, man will bow and become obedient to the voice of the Lord.
Thought for Today: Friend, bow willingly and submit to God.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
