Everyone has a name; some people love their names while others hate theirs. Proverbs 22:1 AMP says, “A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches; And favor is better than silver and gold.” There is value in a name. The right name opens doors. If you want to get into a crowded restaurant and you have the right name, you would not be standing in line. But, as great as names are, there is a name like no other. Proverbs 18:10 NLT says, “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” While famous names open doors, the name of the Lord is available to everyone.

When we review that famous battle between David and Goliath, if there were people making or taking bets, Goliath would have been the favorite. No one would have wasted their money on David. When Goliath saw David, that young boy with what seemed to be toys in a fight between men, Goliath was insulted. Goliath was dressed for battle with the best that that money can buy. He was an experienced fighter with a history of victories. How would David succeed in a battle with his lack of appropriate fighting gear and toys instead of weapons?
What Goliath didn’t know was that David came into the battle with a weapon not made of man’s hands. Both armies saw this fight as a formality. Even the army of Israel conceded the fight because they were all afraid of Goliath. When Goliath saw David he said, “Come over here, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!” David did not respond in fear, he replied, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:44-45 NLT).
David’s weapon changed the outcome of the fight. The Philistine army saw their hopes of victory die with their champion. When you are in trouble, run to the Lord because His name is a strong tower. In Psalm 20:6 David said, “Now I know that the Lord rescues his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power.” That was his experience and thank God, we have access to His great power when we call on His name.
Thought for Today: Friend, there is power in the name of the Lord.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
His name is perfect.
