Let’s Sing About the Goodness of God

There are many characteristics that make a song a hit. I am by no means an expert but I know what I like when I listen to music. Like most, I love songs with a catchy beat; those are my songs to play when I am working. If you have to do housework why not sing something you like? When I am looking for a song for my quiet time with God, I’m more concerned with lyrics than the beat.

One of those songs is The Goodness of God by Jenn Johnson. I remember the first time I heard that song. I was celebrating an accomplishment and one of my friends played it for me. The song spoke to the emotions that were in my heart. I have no idea what makes a song successful but I know what impacts me when I listen. I love when the song writer captured what’s in my heart. This song touched me so deeply that I had to investigate what inspired this song.

This song came out of their successful adoption of a child. They say this experience as nothing but the goodness of God extended their way. When I thought about my accomplishment, I felt the same way. In the article Behind the Song with Kevin Davis, Jenn Johnson shares some of the scriptures verses that are connected to this song. One of these verses is  Exodus 33:19 NKJV. “Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” Then you hear the words of the chorus:

And all my life

You have been faithful

And all my life

You have been so, so good

With every breath

That I am able

Oh, I will sing

Of the goodness of God.

We can all identify with the goodness of God and many of us have been touched by this song. We may not be able to write a song about our experiences but we can share the goodness of God in our lives with others.  Who knows the ability of your story to bring change in the life of someone.

Thought for Today: Friend, God has been good; tell somebody.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
