A little over a week ago, someone living in California won $2.04 billion dollars in the Powerball jackpot. That is a lot of money! We can only imagine the emotional highs, because I don’t think there would be any lows at this time, of the person who purchased the winning ticket. That individual was the subject of many conversations; so many people wished that they could be related to him or her.
There is a notion that money is the answer to all of life’s problems. When you cannot pay your rent or mortgage, it certainly feels that way. However, experts were offering the winner some advice because that much money can cause mayhem without professional guidance. We have read many stories about winners who lost it all or were murdered so someone can have it all. However, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot is 1 in 292 million. But is there a better way? Proverbs 10:22 AMP says, “The blessing of the Lord brings [true] riches, And He adds no sorrow to it [for it comes as a blessing from God].”
There are many people who have played the lottery their entire life and have nothing to show for it; remember, the blessings of the Lord bring true riches. Some of these winners blew their winnings in a few years because they had no idea how to manage the money that came into their life and many were worse off. The blessings of the Lord improve your life and the lives of those connected to you. “And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
Money cannot provide peace or happiness. When Isaiah foretold about Jesus, he called Him the Prince of Peace. That is more important than all the money in the world. People spend a lot of time admiring those who are wealthy and wish for their lifestyle. Then we are shocked when these people take their lives because of the turmoil in their hearts and minds. Don’t use the world’s standards to identify the blessings God has sent your way in abundance; instead look to Him and the Lord will reveal His true riches in your life.
