Effective Prayer Needs Faith

When my children were in school, they would have class events, and students would be asked to contribute items. They were supposed to go home, ask their parents, then tell the teacher what the parents decided. Well, I had a son who used to skip the ask the parents step and tell his teacher that he would bring a cake. The teacher would see me and tell me I’m bringing a cake to their event.

That child was so confident that he would speak, and he knew that his mother would deliver; he had faith in his mother. He never concerned himself about what was needed. He knew that I would not disappoint him. I believe we can take a page from this child when we go to God in prayer. We need faith to receive an answer from God. In Matthew 21,  Jesus was hungry, and He saw a fig tree; He walked over but there was no fruit so he cursed the fig tree; He said, “May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up. (Verse 19)

The interesting thing for me is not that what happened amazed the people; it was that it amazed the disciples who walked with Jesus day after day. They said, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” (Verses 20-22). For our prayer to be effective, it must be done in faith. When we ask in faith, we will see results.

Thought for Today: Friend, doubt will derail your prayer.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
