We know that prayer is necessary in the life of people of faith. Prayer is the key that opens the door of God’s provision in our lives. There are many scriptures that encourage us to pray. But is God required to answer every prayer we pray?
Today, we will look at a man with a problem who prayed and waited for a response from God. When Israel left Egypt and entered the Promised Land, they wanted to fit in with the with the surrounding nations, so they said to Samuel, “Look,” they told him, “You are now old, and your sons are not like you. Give us a king to judge us like all the other nations have.” (1 Samuel 8:5 NLT) This grieved the prophet Samuel, and he went before God. God told him, “Do everything they say to you,” the Lord replied, “for they are rejecting me, not you. (verse 7)
When King Saul had his first battle, he was victorious. But as time went by, he began to do things his own way. One day, they were getting ready to go into battle, but Samuel was delayed. Instead of waiting, he assumed the office of the prophet and offered sacrifice. Samuel reprimanded him but he did not take heed. Later, God gave him a direct command to destroy the Amalekites and he disobeyed. The Lord said, “I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” (1 Samuel 15:11) And so Saul continued to do as he pleased and walked in disobedience to God.
There came a day when Saul wanted to hear from God. He was in trouble, and he sought someone to get directions from God, but God would not respond. Saul looked at his situation and said, “The Philistines are at war with me, and God has left me and won’t reply by prophets or dreams.” (1 Samuel 28:15) Saul discovered that when you live a life of disobedience, you can find that God will not answer your prayer.
Thought for Today” Friend, obedience is necessary for God to answer our prayer.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
We must follow the instructions of the Lord.
