When I was a child, Sunday School was not an option; it was mandatory. When I was a child, it never occurred to me that it was something I had to do because I enjoyed it so much. I had the same teacher in my teenage years. She taught the early teens. When my group aged out of her class, we gently but firmly refused to leave so they made her class the upper teens class and we stayed with our beloved teacher. I loved and admired her.
As I reflected on the cross, and what it means in our lives, I remembered a story about a little boy and a boat she told us years ago. A little boy made a boat, and he took it down to the river to play. He tied it with a string so it would not get lost. However, the string broke and he lost his boat. Some time later, he saw the boat in a shop. He told the owner that the boat was his. The owner told him that he had to buy the boat. He went home, got the money, and bought the boat. He cleaned it up and repaired what was broken on the boat. Then he said, “You are twice mine; I made you and I bought you.”
That is the message of the cross. God created man to have fellowship with Him. When man sinned, God had a plan; 2 Corinthians 5:21 MSG says, “How? you ask. In Christ. God put the wrong on him who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God.” Jesus took our wrong and paid the price we owed because of our sin. “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” (1 Peter 1:18-19) Like the boat, we are twice His; He made us, and He bought us with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Thought for Today: Friend, accept God’s gift; it’s free.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
