We all want to do remarkable things. Why? We grew up watching superheroes save the day. I have no idea who the current superheroes are but that does not mean that little ones don’t have superheroes. In the family of faith, we want to be superheroes too. We want to be better and bigger than our neighbors; we want to sing better, and we want to preach better but is that what God expects from us?
The secret to becoming great in the work of God is found in Acts 10:28 GW, “You know that God anointed Jesus from Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Jesus went everywhere and did good things, such as healing everyone who was under the devil’s power. Jesus did these things because God was with him.” God anointed Jesus. That is the key; and let me tell you that greatness is relative. Greatness has nothing to do with the size of your reach but with the effectiveness of your reach. There are many great people whose reach was limited to a particular group.
Last week I recalled a story from my Sunday School teacher when I was a teenager. She was a great woman of God whose reach were the young ladies whose lives she molded for God. Every Sunday at 3 pm we showed up. When you are seventeen and eighteen years old, you show up because you want to; God anointed her for that purpose. So, there is purpose in the anointing. “The Spirit of the Lord is with me. He has anointed me to tell the Good News to the poor. He has sent me to announce forgiveness to the prisoners of sin and the restoring of sight to the blind, to forgive those who have been shattered by sin,” (Luke 4:18) As we go about the business of ministry, let us remember 1 Corinthians 3:13, “But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.” Let us work so that our work has value in the sight of God.
Thought for the Day: Friend, crave the anointing.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
