It Came to Pass

When children are young, they love to use the word promise. You see, they are always on the lookout for things that their little heart desires. When they find the desired item, they want it now. If that is not possible, they want a promise that they will get it at another time. They never question their parents’ ability to purchase; all they are looking for is a promise.

Why is a promise so powerful? When you make a promise, you give your word that you will or will not do a particular thing. As people we make many promises with the intention of fulfilling them but sometimes, the ability to keep that promise is outside of our ability. When God makes a promise, He word is truth. In Genesis 15:13-16, God tells Abraham that his descendants will be slaves in a foreign land for 400 years, but God would deliver them. On this night, the Lord kept his promise to bring his people out of the land of Egypt. So this night belongs to him, and it must be commemorated every year by all the Israelites, from generation to generation. (Exodus 12:42 NLT)

God did something miraculous in their lives. I’m sure they felt they would die in slavery like those who went before them. But God is faithful. And these words brought a change in their lives, “And it came to pass.” After it came to pass, God gave a directive about remembering: the Passover. There is gratefulness when we remember. So, this specific directive has a message for us also. We also need to remember when people extend exceptional kindness in our direction; we must have an attitude of gratitude.

Thought for Today: God keeps His promises.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
