Debt Cancellation: Jesus, the Lamb of God

The dictionary tells us that a characteristic is a unique quality or appearance that makes an individual or group different from others. So, people can tell a lot about us based on our characteristics. When we look at animals,  they too have characteristics.

Lambs are baby sheep, and they are social animals; we are told that they can recognize up to 50 other sheep and remember their faces for up to two years; they can even remember humans. Lambs are obedient, gentle animals. When John the Baptist, saw Jesus he said: “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29 NLT) Jesus was described as a lamb.

I’m sure the people around were confused with this statement. However, according to the scholars, 700 years before, Isaiah 53:7 said, He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Why did God need a lamb? When the children of Israel were in Egypt, God hardened  Pharaoh’s heart, so he refused to let them go. God commanded His people to get a lamb or a young goat, slay and prepare to eat. They had to cover their doorposts with the blood of the animal. Exodus 12:13 says, But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt.

Jesus, the Lamb of God gave up His life, so that we could restore the fellowship with God that was lost when man sinned. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. (Hebrews 10:4) Jesus, Lamb of God, who He paid a debt He didn’t owe because we owed a debt we couldn’t pay. He paid the price for your salvation so you can have sweet communion with God.  Our Passover lamb is Christ, who has already been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7b CEV) Is He your Passover lamb?

Thought for Today: Friend, your debt is paid in full.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
