Previously, we looked at Elimelech and Naomi who used their senses to make decisions for their lives. There was famine in Bethlehem, and they looked and Moab and saw greener pastures. We need to be mindful when things look greener because I saw someone spray brown grass green.
Gideon, on the other hand, didn’t use his senses when faced with a life-changing decision. After the death of Joshua, there was no leader, and everyone did what they chose. (Judges 17:6). Many of us would love to live this way but there were consequences for their behavior. The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight. So the Lord handed them over to the Midianites for seven years. (Judges 6:1 NLT). The Midianites were a wicked bunch who destroyed their crops and took their cattle, leaving them hungry. Then, Israel remembered God and cried out to Him.
The Angel of the Lord came to Gideon to inform him that he would deliver His people from the Midianites. Gideon was confused; he couldn’t understand with all the prominent and noteworthy men in Israel why God would choose him. “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!” (verse 15). Gideon felt that his position in his tribe and family made this impossible. He wanted to assess this this word, so he asked God for a sign.
Sometimes we are uncertain about how to proceed and like Gideon we should go to God. He knows the uncertainty that resides in our heart, and He wants us to succeed. When the road ahead is dark and dismal, don’t lean on your own understanding. James 1:5 tells us, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” God didn’t rebuke Gideon and He wouldn’t rebuke you.
Thought for Today: Friend, real wisdom comes from God.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
