The Miracle is in Your House!

There are many issues in our lives that need attention, so it’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed at times. Parents look at  their children and have unexpressed concerns about their care. This can be even more burdensome when you are a single parent. This can lead to a feeling of hopelessness when you are unable to meet the needs of your home.

There was a woman in 2 Kings 4 who had a big problem. Her husband died and left her in debt. To compound her problem, creditors wanted to take her two sons to satisfy the debt. What I love about this woman, she did not accept their solution to her problem. She got up and went to the man of God. Her husband served faithfully, but he didn’t manage his finances wisely. Elisha wasn’t intimidated: he asked, “What do you have in the house?” She said, “Just a flask of olive oil.” He gave her some strange directions. First, she had to collect jars, then pour oil in the jars. She filed al the jars. “When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, “Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over.” (2 Kings 4:7 NLT).

Wow! What an ending! The change that came into her life didn’t happen by chance; it came because she decided to get up and do something. Sometimes, we place no value on the little things in our  possession, but there was more than enough in the child’s lunch to feed a multitude when placed in Jesus’ hands. God is unchanging. Give Him your little and watch Him bless your little and bring change in your life and the lives of those connected to you. Like this woman, you too can have a leftover blessing.

Thought for Today: Friend, don’t underestimate what’s in your house.
