Looking for Change? Go to God in Prayer!

David Sarnoff said, “Competition brings out the best in products and the worst in people.”  Unfortunately, at times, life is a competition: it’s who has the biggest house, the fastest car, the most money in the bank and the list goes on. While it’s good for the consumer because competition for our patronage gives us the best prices, competition has no place in our personal relationships.

The Bible tells us about a woman, Hannah, a wife who was barren. You see, Hannah lived at the time when a man was permitted to have multiple wives.  Elkanah, her husband, loved Hannah dearly but the Lord had closed her womb. Unfortunately, the law gave her husband the opportunity to take another wife if his wife was barren and so Elkanah  took another wife who gave him children. His other wife tormented Hannah. Hannah turned to God in prayer. She was a desperate woman, and she made a vow. If God would give her a son she would give the child to God.

God answered her prayer and so when Samuel, her son, was an independent child, she took him to the Temple to live there. “I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.” (1 Samuel 1:27-28 NLT). God did not stop with Samuel; Hannah had three more sons and two daughters. What is that tormenting issue in your life? You do not have to sit and cry over what you cannot control. Take the situation to God in prayer and watch God work it out. Prayer is not an exercise to make God do what we want Him to do. No! In prayer, we align our will to God’s will and say, “Your will be done.”

Thought for Today: God answers prayer.
