Created with Purpose for Purpose

The dictionary defines creator as a person or thing that brings something into existence. When I go into the kitchen and gather ingredients from the fridge and pantry and make a cake, I am the creator. The cake was created for one purpose: to eat and enjoy.

When we look at an airplane, we see a thing created with purpose. The design resembles a bird; so, the purpose of the airplane is to soar through the air and take people from one destination to another. At no time was it ever said that the plane talked back to the inventor and said that I don’t want to fly. Once there is gas in the tank; a pilot in the cockpit and an engine in working order, that plane is soaring through the air. In Genesis 1, there is an account of creation. Now we needed a set of preexisting materials to create the cake, and the plane. But God, awesome in power, didn’t need any preexisting materials to create the earth. He spoke the earth and the world into existence; He said, “Let there be. . . and there was. Then God created man in His own image (Genesis 1:27).

Unlike the cake or the plane, man has difficulty fulfilling his purpose; we were created to have fellowship with God. However, man has decided that he has no plans to comply with God’s purpose. Solomon said, “After all this, there is only one thing to say: Have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because this is all that we were created for.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13 GNT). Purpose lies with the creator. Yes, we can sometimes use things outside of their purpose and have limited success. For example, I can use a knife to insert or remove a small screw. If I’m involved with a big project, I need a  screwdriver, or a drill bit created for that purpose. I pray that we will all reverence God and obey His commands so we can fulfill our purpose.

Thought for Today: Friend, live in God’s purpose.
