Detangled and Set Free!

Last week, I was working in my garden. We live in a community where you must be mindful about which plants beautify the front of your home. Last year we planted some rose bushes that the deer seemed to love. They were progressing nicely. Every morning, I went outside and watered the roses, and they responded with an abundance of buds. I was happy; I was anticipating an abundance of blooms.

One morning, I noticed that all the buds were gone; they were a meal for a deer family. This year, we had a plan! Our roses would not be deer food! We placed them in  cages, but they didn’t like it. One day, we decided to free them! The first two were easy. The third gets the most sun, and it  has the most growth. It was more difficult to set free from the netting on the cage, I had to get a pair of scissors, and it took a long time. While I was carefully cutting away the net, it reminded me of Galatians 5:1 KJV. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” It took more time to free that plant that the other two combined. There was more growth and more work.

I’m sure that if that plant could speak, she would say, please don’t do that again. The process of freedom is painful, and I do not want to go through that experience again. The net of sin entangles an individual in all sorts of wicked and evil practices. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from sin and removes the net that ensnares us. As careful as I was, I broke two buds off the plant. That made me aware that freedom demands letting go. We must let go of those friends and habits that would entangle us again. “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” (John 8:36 NLT).

Thought for Today: Friend, when Christ sets you free, remain free.
