Children often imitate the qualities of their parents. If the parents are polite and helpful, then it’s possible to see those qualities in the offspring. The reverse is true if parents spend their time cussing at everyone including their children, then it’s highly likely that their children will do likewise. When you walk with God, His characteristic will become your characteristics.
God is faithful! One definition of faithfulness says, it’s being dependable, trustworthy, and steadfast in one’s commitments, whether to a person, a cause, or a belief. In other words, it is a weighty characteristic. If we want to be considered faithful, then we should be dependable, trustworthy, and steadfast in our commitments. Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV states this so beautifully: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” There are days that we want to go back to bed and begin again; yet even in those days God’s love for us is firm, unwavering, and resolute. We can depend on His faithfulness.
When days are dark, we rely on the faithfulness of God for the mercy of a new day and a new beginning. Can we say that we demonstrate that quality of our heavenly Father? Are we steadfast in our commitment to Him? The writer of Proverbs tells us: “Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.” (Proverbs 3:3-4). Faithfulness takes work. We must constantly work at it; we must bind them around our neck so that they do not leave our lives.
Thought for Today: Friend, let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you.
