Genuine Love: Change Agent

We live in a world today where we celebrate division. Before, we focused on what united us; today the focus is what divides us. Sadly, this ideology has made its way into our communities of worship where we identify with division. But as people of faith, are we supposed to copy the behavior of the world or renew our mind? (Romans 12:2).

In 1 Corinthians 1:10 MSG, the Apostle Paul states, “I have a serious concern to bring up with you, my friends, using the authority of Jesus, our Master. I’ll put it as urgently as I can: You must get along with each other. You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common.”  Here Paul is making an appeal to the membership. There is a real problem, and the members have chosen sides, and  Paul is making his case, using the authority of Jesus Christ.

Paul pleads for unity. You this is a  community of believers. There is no place in this community for the issues that divide. So, Paul asks them to put their differences aside. He asks them to be considerate; in other words,  be careful so as not to hurt each other and  build on common ground. That is as relevant today as the day it was written. Instead of focusing on our differences, we should take the time to focus on unity because we are one in Christ. Friends, let’s not follow the world, let us lead with love and see change in our world one life at a time.

Thought for Today: Friend, love unites.
